Export Oriented Enterprises - 1st Quarter 2020
Highlights
  
1.    EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of In​vestment.
 
2.    Compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, total employment in EOE decreased by 672 (-1.5%) from 44,160 to 43,488. Some 328 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises whilst 1,000 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 371 (-1.6%) from 23,747 to 23,376 and that of foreign workers decreased by 301 (-1.5%) from 20,413 to 20,112.
 
3.    EOE exports during the first quarter of 2020 amounted to R 9,598 million, 5.4% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2019 and 6.0% lower compared to the first quarter of 2019.  EOE imports during the first quarter of 2020 amounted to R 4,791 million, 20.7% lower than the fourth quarter of 2019 and 24.3% lower than the first quarter of 2019.
