Total Primary Energy Requirement
In 2025, the total primary energy requirement (sum of imported and locally available fuels less re-exports and bunkering after adjusting for stock changes) was 1,631,400 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), up by 1.0% from 1,614,872 toe in 2024.
Imported fuels comprising, mainly, petroleum products (64.3%) and coal (26.4%) made up 90.8% (1,480,782 toe) of the total primary energy requirement in 2025. The remaining 9.2% (150,618 toe) was from local sources, namely, bagasse, hydro, wind, landfill gas, photovoltaic and fuelwood.

Electricity
In 2025, electricity generation increased by 3.9% from 3,417.6 GWh (293,864 toe) in 2024 to 3,551.6 GWh (305,379 toe), of which 82.2% (2,919.1 GWh) was generated from non-renewable sources and 17.8% (632.4 GWh) from renewable sources.
The Central Electricity Board produced 54.1% of the total electricity generated and the Independent Power Producers produced the remaining 45.9%.
From 2024 to 2025, sales of electricity increased by 4.7% from 2,931.5 GWh to 3,069.8 GWh and the average sales price was at Rs. 7.54 per kWh.

Water
The mean amount of rainfall recorded in the Island of Mauritius decreased by 16.6% from 2,186 millimetres in 2024 to 1,824 millimetres in 2025. During the same period, the total volume of potable water treated by the different treatment plants increased by 0.1% from 332.3 million cubic metres to 332.6 million cubic metres.
