Small and Medium Enterprises
This section presents statistics on the SME sector, namely on the number of SMEs by industry group, employment in SMEs, value added of SMEs and exports of SMEs.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are now fully recognized as playing a key role in economic growth and in improving living standards. More jobs are being created in small and medium enterprises than in large ones, as indicated by data from the last two censuses of economic activities (CEA) and the Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey (CMPHS). Value added generated by SMEs is also on the rise.
A short publication, based on 2013 available information, to show the importance of the various categories of production units, namely ‘micro’, ‘small’ and ‘medium’, including the latest updates on SMEs is given below under section Data/Historical Series.
