Road Transport and Road Traffic Accident Statistics - Year 2025

Highlights

Vehicles registered

​1. As at end of December 2025, some 746,961 vehicles were registered at the National Land Transport Authority, compared to 710,605 at the end of December 2024, i.e. an increase of 36,356 or +5.1%.

2. Some 42,630 vehicles joined the fleet, whilst 6,274 were put out of circulation during the year.

3. The fleet consisted mostly of cars, double cab pickups and dual-purpose vehicles (423,869 or 56.8%) and auto/motor cycles (257,269 or 34.4%). The remaining 8.8% comprised vans, lorries, trucks, buses and other vehicles.

 

Road traffic accidents

4. Compared to 2024, accidents causing casualties went up by 2.8% in 2025, slight injuries by 3.4%, serious injuries by 3.1%, partly offset by decreases in fatal accidents by 7.2%.

5. Accident rate, expressed as the number of accidents per 100,000 mid-year population, was 3,355 in 2025 compared to 3,287 in 2024. The number of accidents per 1,000 mid-year registered vehicles works out to 55 in 2025 against 57 in 2024.

6.  In 2025, the number of fatalities was 124 compared to 134 in 2024. Among the fatalities, 52 were riders/pillion riders of auto/motor cycles and 30 were pedestrians.​
