​Road Transport and Road Traffic Accident Statistics - Year 2024

Vehicles registered

   1.   As at end of December 2024, some 710,605 vehicles were registered at the National Land Transport Authority, compared to 676,441 at the end of December 2023, i.e. an increase of 34,164 or +5.1%.

   2.   ​Some 39,585 vehicles joined the fleet, whilst 5,421 were put out of circulation during the year. 

   3.   The fleet consisted mostly of cars, double cab pickups and dual-purpose vehicles (397,266 or 55.9%) and auto/motor cycles (249,451 or 35.1%). The remaining 9.0% comprised vans, lorries and trucks, buses and other vehicles.

Road traffic accidents

    4.  Compared to 2023, accidents causing casualties went down by 7.2% in 2024, fatal accidents by 3.8%, serious injury accidents by 40.0%, partly offset by increases in slight injury accidents by 1.1%.

   5.  Accident rate, expressed as the number of accidents per 100,000 mid-year population, was 3,287 in 2024 compared to 2,994 in 2023. The number of accidents per 1,000 mid-year registered vehicles works out to 57 in 2024 against 55 in 2023. 

   6.   In 2024, the number of fatalities was 134 compared to 138 in 2023. Among the fatalities, 66 were riders/pillion riders of auto/motor cycles and 24 were pedestrians.
