Vehicles registered
1. At end of December 2022, some 648,176 vehicles were registered at the National Land Transport Authority, compared to 622,988 at the end of December 2021, i.e. an increase of 25,188 or +4.0%.
2. Some 31,734 vehicles joined the fleet, whilst 6,546 were put out of circulation during the year.
3. The fleet consisted mostly of cars, double cab pickups and dual-purpose vehicles (350,996 or 54.2%) and auto/motor cycles (236,566 or 36.5%). The remaining 9.3% comprised vans, lorries, trucks, buses and other vehicles.
Road traffic accidents
4. Compared to 2021, accidents causing casualties increased by 24.0%, those causing serious injuries by 11.1% and slight injuries by 29.5% in 2022, while fatal accidents decreased by 4.8%.
5. Accident rate, (number of accidents per 100,000 mid-year population) was 2,917 in 2022 compared to 2,346 in 2021. The number of accidents per 1,000 mid-year registered vehicles works out to 56 in 2022 against 47 in 2021.
6. In 2022, the number of fatalities was 108, same as in 2021. Among the fatalities, 53 were riders/pillion riders of auto/motor cycle and 33 were pedestrians.
