Vehicles registered

  1. 1.        At the end of June 2022, the number of vehicles registered at National Land Transport Authority stood at 636,116, representing an increase of 2.1%, compared to the figure of 622,988 registered at the end of 2021. The number of vehicles which joined the fleet in the first semester of 2022 was 16,290 whilst 3,162 were put out of circulation.

    2.        The number of road accidents registered during the first semester of 2022 was 16,934, that is, 35.7% higher than the figure of 12,477 for the first semester of 2021.
  2. During the first semester of 2022 the number of road traffic accidents causing casualties (deaths and persons injured as a result of road accidents) increased by 19.0% to 1,014 compared to 852 in the corresponding period of 2021.  Amongst 42 were fatal compared to 51 during January to June 2021. Non-injury accidents increased by 36.9% to 15,920, against 11,625 for the corresponding period of 2021.
     
  3. 3.        The number of persons who died as a result of road accidents during the first semester of 2022 was 44 as compared to 53 during the corresponding period of 2021. Among the casualties, the most vulnerable category of road users were riders/pillion riders of auto/motor cycles (22), followed by pedestrians (17).
