1.            At end of June 2019, some 568,879 vehicles were registered at National Transport Authority, compared to 556,001 at the end of December 2018, i.e. an increase of 12,878 or 2.3%.
 
2.            Between January and June 2019, some 15,713 vehicles joined the fleet, while 2,835 were put out of circulation.
 
3.            The fleet consisted largely of cars, double cap pickup and dual-purpose vehicles (298,543 or 52.5%) and auto/motor cycles (214,482 or 37.7%). The remaining 9.8% comprised vans, lorries, trucks, buses and other vehicles.
 
Road traffic accident
 
4.            During January to June 2019, the number of road accidents increased by 16.2% to 17,001 compared to 14,634 recorded during the corresponding period of 2018. Among these accidents, 64 were fatal (caused death) against 79 registered during the corresponding period of 2018.
 
5.            The total number of vehicles (motor and non-motorised) involved in road accidents during the period January to June 2019 was 30,561, that is, 1,852 or 6.5% higher than the figure of 28,709 recorded during the same period of 2018.
 
6.            During the same period, the number of casualties increased by 4.0% to 1834, compared to 1,763 recorded in the corresponding period of 2018. Among the casualties, so​me 40.3% were riders of auto/motor cycles, 24.6% passengers, 17.0% pedestrians, 13.5% drivers and 4.6% pedal cyclists.
 
7.            During the first semes​​ter of 2019, some 69 persons died as a result of road accidents, against 88 during the corresponding period of 2018, showing a decrease of 21.6%.
