1. The Quarterly Index of Industrial Production shows the evolution of the volume or real output of the Industrial Sector comprising “Mining and quarrying”, “Manufacturing”, “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities”.
2. In the fourth quarter of 2019, the overall index of industrial production grew by 16.2% compared to the previous quarter and by 0.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2018.
3. The performance of the sub-sectors within the industrial sector is as follows:

4. The index for the year 2019, worked out as the average of quarterly indices grew by 1.4%. This is explained by expansions in “Mining and quarrying” (+3.3%), “Manufacturing” (+0.5%), “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” (+4.5%) and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities” (+1.5%).
