The Quarterly Index of Industrial Production shows the evolution of the volume or real output of the Industrial Sector comprising “Mining and quarrying”, “Manufacturing”, “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities”.

In the first quarter of 2020, the overall index of industrial production contracted by 20.9% compared to the previous quarter and by 3.2% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019.

For year ending first quarter 2020, i.e. second quarter 2019 to first quarter 2020, real industrial output contracted by 0.1%. This is explained by expansions in “Mining and quarrying” (+2.3%) and “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” (+3.9%) partly offset by a contraction of 0.6% in “Manufacturing” and a zero growth in “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities”.
