PRODUCER PRICE INDEX – MANUFACTURING (PPI-M) - 2nd Quarter 2021

1.  PPI-M, which stood at 118.9 in March 2021, registered an increase of 3.2 points (+2.7%) during the second quarter of 2021 to reach 122.1 in June 2021. The monthly changes were as follows: April (+0.6%), May (+0.4%) and June (+1.7%).

 

2.  The average PPI-M for the second quarter of 2021 stood at 120.6, i.e. an increase of 2.8 points (+2.4%) from 117.8 in the first quarter of 2021. This increase was mainly attributable to higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+1.4%), “Fabricated metal products" (+3.7%), “Chemicals and chemical products" (+3.4%), “Other products" (+7.8%), “Basic metals" (+15.4%), “Rubber and plastic products" (+5.4%), “Furniture" (+2.4%), “Printing and reproduction of recorded media" (+4.8%) and “Machinery and equipment, n.e.c" (+12.9%). Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, the average PPI-M for the second quarter of 2021 increased by 7.8 points (+6.9%), mainly explained by higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+6.4%), “Other products" (+22.3%), “Chemicals and chemical products" (+6.1%), “Fabricated metal products" (+5.5%), “Printing and reproduction of recorded media" (+14.8%), “Basic metals" (+34.5%) “Wearing apparel" (+7.8%), “Rubber and plastic products" (+9.1%), “Other transport equipment" (+16.4%), “Furniture" (+3.2%), “Wood and products of wood & cork; articles of straw and plaiting materials/ Paper and paper" (+6.2%) and “Other non-metallic mineral products" (+1.7%).
