Producer Price Index - Manufacturing (PPI-M) - 1st Quarter 2021

 

Highlights

(Base Period: 2013=100)​ 

 

1.    PPI-M, which stood at 116.5 in December 2020, registered an increase of 2.4 points (+2.1%) during the first quarter of 2021 to reach 118.9 in March 2021. The monthly changes were as follows: January (+0.3%), February (+0.8%) and March (+1.0 %).

 

2.    The average PPI-M for the first quarter of 2021 stood at 117.8, i.e. an increase of 1.4 points (+1.2%) from 116.4 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This increase was mainly attributable to higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+1.1%), “Printing and reproduction of recorded media" (+8.1%), “Chemicals and chemical products" (+1.7%), “Rubber and plastic products" (+3.4%) and “Basic metals" (+9.8%). Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, the average PPI-M for the first quarter of 2021 increased by 6.4 points (+5.7%), mainly explained by higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+6.0%), “Other products" (+22.0%), “Printing and reproduction of recorded media" (+17.4%), “Other transport equipment" (+19.5%), “Wearing apparel" (+7.2%) and “Other non-metallic mineral products" (+4.3%).
