Export Oriented Enterprises - 4th Quarter 2019

Highlights
 
1.            EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the  ex-Board of Investment.
 
2.            Compared to the third quarter of 2019, total employment in E​OE decreased by 1,490       (-3.3%) from 45,650 to 44,160. Some 510 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises whilst 2,000 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce and closure of enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 1,160 (-4.7%) from 24,907 to 23,747 and that of foreign workers decreased by 330 (-1.6%) from 20,743 to 20,413.
 
3.            EOE exports during the fourth quarter of 2019 amounted to R 10,150 million, 5.1% lower compared to the third quarter of 2019 and 4.3% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2018. EOE imports during the fourth quarter of 2019 amounted to R 6,043 million, 1.3% lower than the third quarter of 2019 and 8.1% lower than the fourth quarter of 2018.
