Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 3rd Quarter 2021

Highlights

 

  1. 1.  You may wish to note that EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

  2. 2.  Compared to the second quarter of 2021, total employment in EOE decreased by 400 (-1.1%) from 36,047 to 35,647.  Some 786 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises and closure of enterprise whilst 386 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians increased by 298 (+1.5%) from 19,824 to 20,122  and that of foreign workers decreased by 698 (-4.3%) from 16,223 to 15,525.

    3.  EOE exports during the third quarter of 2021 amounted to R 11,421 million, 9.5% higher compared to the second quarter of 2021 and 0.1% lower compared to the third quarter of 2020. EOE imports during the third quarter of 2021 amounted to R 6,685 million, 14.0% higher than the second quarter of 2021 and 26.0% higher than the third quarter of 2020.
