Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 2nd Quarter 2024

Highlights

 

1.   EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

2.   Compared to the first quarter of 2024, total employment in EOE decreased by 200 (-0.6%) from 32,604 to 32,404.  Some 592 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 392 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians decreased by 270 (-1.5%) from 18,294 to 18,024 and that of foreign workers increased by 70 (+0.5%) from 14,310 to 14,380. 

3.   EOE exports during the second quarter of 2024 amounted to R 11,435 million, 20.8% higher compared to the first quarter of 2024 and 4.6% lower compared to the second quarter of 2023. EOE imports during the second quarter of 2024 amounted to R 6,128 million, 11.3% higher than the first quarter of 2024 and 16.6% lower than the second quarter of 2023. ​
