​Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 2nd Quarter 2021

Highlights


1.    EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

 

2.    Compared to the first quarter of 2021, total employment in EOE decreased by 460 (-1.3%) from 36,507 to 36,047. Some 946 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 486 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians increased by 429 (+2.2%) from 19,395 to 19,824 and that of foreign workers decreased by 889 (-5.2%) from 17,112 to 16,223.

 

3.   EOE exports during the second quarter of 2021 amounted to R 10,428 million, 10.5% higher compared to the first quarter of 2021 and 97.8% higher compared to the second quarter of 2020. EOE imports during the second quarter of 2021 amounted to R 5,863 million, 8.6% higher than the first quarter of 2021 and 63.8% higher than the second quarter of 2020.
