Export Oriented Enterprises - 2nd Quarter 2019
Highlights
 
1. EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the  ex-Board of Investment.
 
2. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, total employment in EOE decreased by 2,151        (-4.4%) from 48,699 to 46,548. Some 574 jobs were created in existing enterprises whilst 2,725 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce and closure of enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 1,376 (-5.2%) from 26,711 to 25,335 while that of foreign workers decreased by 775 (-3.5%) from 21,988 to 21,213.
 
3. EOE exports during the second quarter of 2019 amounted to R 11,461 million, 12.2% higher compared to the first quarter of 2019 and 0.9% higher compared to the second quarter of 2018. EOE imports amounted to R 6,195 million, 2.1% lower than the first quarter of 2019 and 9.8% lower than the second quarter of 2018.
