Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE)​ - 1st Quarter 2024

Highlights

​ 

1.       EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

​2.      Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, total employment in EOE decreased by 442 (-1.3%) from 33,293 to 32,851.  Some 810 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 368 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises.  Employment of Mauritians decreased by 188 (-1.0%) from 18,548 to 18,360 and that of foreign workers decreased by 254 (-1.7%) from 14,745 to 14,491.

3.      EOE exports during the first quarter of 2024 amounted to R 9,469 million, 11.7% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2023 and 20.7% lower compared to the first quarter of 2023. EOE imports during the first quarter of 2024 amounted to R 5,507 million, 13.3% lower than the fourth quarter of 2023 and 19.1% lower than the first quarter of 2023.
