​​Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 1st Quarter 2022

Highlights


1.            EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

 

2.            Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, total employment in EOE decreased by 120 (-0.3%) from 35,024 to 34,904. Some 857 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 737 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians increased by 294 (+1.5%) from 19,908 to 20,202 and that of foreign workers decreased by 414 (-2.7%) from 15,116 to 14,702.

 

3.            EOE exports during the first quarter of 2022 amounted to R 10,932 million, 4.5% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 and 16.5% higher compared to the first quarter of 2021. EOE imports during the first quarter of 2022 amounted to R 7,483 million, 3.7% lower than the fourth quarter of 2021 and 39.4 % higher than the first quarter of 2021.
