Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE)1st Quarter 2021

Highlights

 

 

1.            EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

 

2.            Compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, total employment in EOE decreased by 229 (-0.6%) from 36,736 to 36,507. Some 593 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in enterprises whilst 364 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians increased by 275 (+1.4%) from 19,120 to 19,395 and that of foreign workers decreased by 504 (-2.9%) from 17,616 to 17,112.

 

3.            EOE exports during the first quarter of 2021 amounted to R 9,435 million, 14.9% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 and 1.0% lower compared to the first quarter of 2020. EOE imports during the first quarter of 2021 amounted to R 5,401 million, 9.1% lower than the fourth quarter of 2020 and 12.3 % higher than the first quarter of 2020.
