Wage Rate Index – Second Quarter 2021
Highlights

- 1. The wage rate index increased by 1.3% or 1.5 points to reach 116.3 in second quarter 2021 from 114.8 in first quarter 2021. Compared to second quarter 2020, it increased by 3.7% or 4.2 points.
2. Main changes registered in the sub-indices from first quarter 2021 to second quarter 2021 are:

3. The wage rate index for the general government sector, which accounts for around 34% of the total weight of the wage rate index, stood at 112.6 in first and second quarters 2021. Compared to second quarter 2020, an increase of 2.3% or 0.8 point is noted.
4. The index for the public sector, which comprises general government and public enterprises and accounting for around 46% of the wage rate index, increased by 0.4% or 0.4 point from 112.9 in first quarter 2021 to 113.3 in second quarter 2021. Compared to second quarter 2020, the second quarter 2021 index increased by 2.3% or 2.5 points.
5. The index for the private sector, which accounts for around 54% of the total weight of the wage rate index, increased by 2.1% or 2.4 points from 116.5 in first quarter 2021 to 118.9 in second quarter 2021. Compared to second quarter 2020, the index increased by 4.9% or 5.6 points.
