Wage Rate Index - 1st Quarter 2020
Highlights

1. The wage rate index increased by 1.3% or 1.5 points to reach 115.1 in first quarter 2020, from 113.6 in fourth quarter 2019. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, the index, which stood at 111.8, increased by 3.0% or 3.3 points.
2. Main changes registered in the sub-indices from 4th Quarter 2019 to 1st Quarter 2020 are:

3. The index for the public sector which comprises general government and public enterprises and accounting for around 46% of the wage rate index, increased by 3.2% or 3.5 points from 110.0 in fourth quarter 2019 to 113.5 in first quarter 2020. Compared to first quarter 2019, it increased by 3.4% or 3.7 points.
4. The index for the private sector which accounts for around 54% of the total weight of the wage rate index decreased by 0.3% or 0.3 point from 116.7 in fourth quarter 2019 to 116.4 in first quarter 2020. Compared to first quarter 2019, it increased by 2.6% or 2.9 points.
