Change in employment from March 2017 to March 2018
1. Employment in large establishments increased by 2,195 from 319,070 (195,700 males and 123,370 females) in March 2017 to 321,265 (196,363 males and 124,902 females) in March 2018.
2. Main changes in employment were registered in the following industry groups:

3. Employment in the General Government Sector increased by 1,051 from 77,235 (47,267 males and 29,968 females) to 78,286 (47,217 males and 31,069 females) in March 2018 mainly in ‘Human health and social work activities’ (+641) and ‘Education’ (+578). Female employment increased by 1,101 while male employment decreased by 50.
4. Employment in large Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) increased by 500 from 51,415 (25,216 males and 26,199 females) to 51,915 (26,085 males and 25,830 females).
5. The number of foreign workers increased by 1,314 from 28,512 (19,817 males and 8,695 females) to 29,826 (21,425 males and 8,401 females).

6. Overall average monthly earnings in large establishments increased by 4.3% from Rs 28,676 to Rs 29,896. A general upward trend was observed in almost all industrial groups. Highest increases were registered in ‘Financial and insurance activities’ (9.9%), ‘Mining and quarrying’ (8.1%) and ‘Administrative and support service activities’ (7.9%).
7. Average monthly earnings in large establishments of the EOE sector increased by 3.4% from Rs 16,323 to Rs 16,881.
