Construction Price Index - 3rd Quarter 2022

Highlights

 

  1. 1.   The Construction Price Index which stood at 129.8 in the second quarter of 2022 increased by 1.4% to reach 131.6 in the third quarter of 2022. The monthly changes were as follows: July (0.4%), August (0.8%) and September (-0.1%).
     
  2. 2.    During the third quarter of 2022, increases were noted in the following sub-indices: “Hire of Plant" (2.4%), “Materials" (1.1%) and “Transport" (17.4%).
     
  3. 3.    The increase of 1.1% in the “Materials" sub-index was mainly due to:

            (i)  increases in the prices of cement (0.2%), aggregate (0.7%), timber joinery (0.6%) and plumbing (1.6%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of steel bars (-0.9%) in July 2022;
  4.        (ii)  increases in the prices of cement (0.2%), premixed concrete (2.2%), timber carpentry (1.3%), timber joinery (0.8%), tiles and granite (3.1%), paint (5.5%), laminated flooring (11.6%) and plumbing (0.7%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of steel bars (-1.6%) in August 2022; and
  5.      (iii) increase in the prices of premixed mortar (1.7%), offset by decreases in the prices of steel bars (-2.2%) and timber carpentry (-1.2%) in September 2022.
