Construction Price Index, 2nd Quarter 2022

Highlights

 

  1. 1.   The Construction Price Index which stood at 125.2 in the first quarter of 2022 increased by 3.7% to reach 129.8 in the second quarter of 2022. The monthly increases were as follows: April (0.9%), May (1.1%) and June (0.2%).

    2.   During the second quarter of 2022, increases were noted in the following sub-indices: “Hire of Plant" (2.0%), “Materials" (4.5%) and “Transport" (17.0%).

  2. 3.   The increase of 4.5% in the “Materials" sub-index was mainly due to:

  3.        (i)  increases in the prices of premixed concrete (0.2%), premixed mortar (0.3%), steel bars (5.7%), tiles and granite (0.6%), paint (2.2%), plumbing (7.6%) and electrical installation (1.1%) in April 2022;

  4.        (ii) 
    increases in the prices of premixed mortar (2.6%), steel bars (1.2%), timber carpentry (7.1%), tiles and granite (0.6%), paint (0.6%), plumbing (1.2%) and electrical installation (1.3%) in May 2022; and

  5.       (iii) increases in the prices of aggregate (0.5%), premixed concrete (1.4%), premixed mortar (0.4%), timber joinery (1.2%) and plumbing (0.5%) in June 2022.
