Consumer Price Index - 2nd Quarter 2021​

Highl​ights


1. The Consumer Price Index, which stood at 108.5 in March 2021, registered a net increase of 2.9 points (or 2.7%) to reach 111.4 in June 2021.

2. The main contributors for the net increase in CPI from March 2021 to June 2021 were:
    - higher prices of vegetables (+0.4 point), meat (+0.2 point), fish (+0.1 point), powdered milk (+0.1 point), some frozen semi-prepared food (+0.1 point), and some other food products (+0.3 point);
    - higher prices of cigarettes (+0.4 point);
    - higher prices of beer and stout (+0.2 point);
    - higher prices of whisky (+0.1 point);
    - higher prices of rum and other cane spirits (+0.1 point);
    - higher prices of gasolene (+0.5 point);
    - higher prices of goods for personal care (+0.1 point), and;
    - higher prices of some other goods and services (+0.3 point);

3. The headline inflation rate for the twelve months ending June 2021 worked out to 2.2%, compared to 1.8% for the twelve months ending June 2020.

4. The headline inflation rate excluding “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” for the twelve months ending June 2021 worked out to 2.2%, compared to 1.9% for the twelve months ending June 2020.
