1. Monthly index

​Overall index

The Producer Price Index–Agriculture, which was 128.6 in March 2020 decreased by 21.5% to reach 101.0 in June 2020. This fall was due to decreases of 0.7%, 13.2% and 8.8% in April, May and June respectively.


Sugar cane

The index for “Sugar cane" for the period July 2019 to June 2020 was 71.9 based on the final price of sugar for the 2019 crop. This represents an increase of 30.7% over the 2018 crop. It is assumed that the same price prevails during the whole of the crop year.

 

Other crop products

      • ​​​      -  In April, the index for “Other crop products" fell by 1.4%, mainly due to a decrease of 22.3% in the prices of fruits and nuts, partly mitigated by an increase of 3.5% in the prices of fresh vegetables.
      -   In May, the index decreased by 27.1% mainly due to a decrease of 32.9% in the prices of fresh vegetables.

      -   In June, the index fell by 19.8% mainly due to a decrease of 34.0% in the prices of fresh vegetables, partly mitigated by an increase of 17.0% in the prices of fruits and nuts.

Animals and animal products
      - In April, the index rose by 0.1% due to an increase in the prices of eggs (+17.6%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of poultry (-4.0%).

  •       -  In May, the index increased by 0.3% due to a rise in the prices of poultry (+2.1%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of eggs (-5.6%).
  •        -  In June, the index fell by 1.8% due to a decrease in the prices of eggs (-10.5%), partly mitigated by an increase in the prices of milk (+4.4%).

    2. Quarterly index

​The overall index for the second quarter of 2020 decreased by 5.7% when compared to the previous quarter and increased by 12.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019.
