Producer Price Index - Agriculture (PPI-A) -1st quarter 2026

In order to reflect changes in the latest production pattern of agricultural products, a new set of weights has been worked out with year 2023 as the weight reference period, the previous one being 2018 and with a more recent index reference period which is January to December 2025 =100. The main source for determination of weights was the results from the Census of Agriculture 2024 and administrative data obtained from Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries.
Note that the current indices computed using new weight structure is not strictly comparable with the previous and corresponding ones, due to change in the composition of the basket.
1. Monthly index
Overall index

- PPI-A, which was 97.3 in January 2026, has decreased by 0.4% to reach 96.9 in March 2026. From January to February 2026, PPI-A increased by 0.8% whilst from February to March 2026, it decreased by 1.2%.
Sugar cane
- The index for the period January 2026 to March 2026 was 94.5 based on the forecasted price of sugar for the crop year 2025-2026.
Other crop products

- The index for "Other crop products" which was 95.6 in January 2026, has decreased by 0.8% to reach 94.8 in March 2026, mainly due to a decrease of 2.2% in the prices of “fresh vegetables" such as creepers (-22.4%) and cabbage (-24.6%), partly mitigated by a main increase of 12.5% in the prices of some other fresh vegetables. Additionally, this decrease in the prices of “fresh vegetables" was partly mitigated by an increase of 2.2% in the prices of “fruits and nuts" such as pineapple (+11.5%).
Animals and animal products
- The index for the sub-group "Animals and animal products" which was 100.1 in January 2026 has decreased by 0.1% to reach 100.0 in March 2026, due to a decrease of 1.7% in the prices of eggs.

- The overall index for the first quarter of 2026 stood at 97.4.
