1. Monthly index

Overall index

The Producer Price Index–Agriculture, which was 110.1 in December 2020 increased by 6.7% to reach 117.5 in March 2021. The index increased by 6.0% in January, decreased by 0.7% in February and increased by 1.4% in March.
Sugar cane

The index for the period July 2020 to March 2021 was 82.1 based on the forecast for the crop year 2020-2021. This index will be revised at the end of June 2021 when the final price is available.

Other crop products

    - In January, the index rose by 15.0% mainly due to increases of 20.6% and 14.0% in the prices of fruits and nuts, and fresh vegetables (tomato and creepers) respectively.

    - In February, the index fell by 0.9% mainly due to a decrease of 16.0% in the prices of fruits and nuts, partly mitigated by increases in the prices of fresh vegetables (tomato and carrot) (+7.3%) and, edible roots and tubers (+13.8%).

    - In March, the index rose by 3.0% mainly due to​ increases in the prices of fresh vegetables (tomato, carrot and creepers) (+11.6%) and, edible roots and tubers (+19.8%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of fruits and nuts (-19.2%).

Animals and animal products

   - In January, the index increased by 0.9% mainly due to an increase in the prices of poultry (+1.2%).

   - In February, the index fell by 0.8% due to a decrease in the prices of poultry (-1.7%), partly mitigated by an increase in the prices of eggs (+2.6%).

   - In March, the index rose by 0.4% due to an increase in the prices of eggs (+2.4%).

  2. Quarterly index

The overall index for the first quarter of 2021 increased by 6.0% when compared to the previous quarter and decreased by 2.6% when compared to the corresponding quarter.
