Construction Price Index, 2nd Quarter 2021
Highlights

1. The Construction Price Index which stood at 108.3 in the first quarter of 2021 increased by 1.8% to reach 110.3 in the second quarter of 2021.

2. The sub-indices “Labour”, “Hire of Plant” and “Transport” remained unchanged during the second quarter.

3. The increase of 2.7% in the “Materials” sub-index was mainly due to:

(i) increases in the prices of cement (0.7%) and steel bars (4.0%) in April 2021;

(ii) increases in the prices of cement (0.3%), premixed mortar (0.5%), steel bars (6.6%), timber carpentry (4.7%), tiles and granite (2.1%) and laminated flooring (1.5%) in May 2021; and

(iii) increases in the prices of cement (2.1%), premixed mortar (0.7%), steel bars (4.6%), aluminium openings (15.1%) and plumbing (4.2%) in June 2021.
