Celebration of the 2023 African Statistics Day

1. November 18 is African Statistics Day. This day was adopted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) to be celebrated each year in order to:

  •         -  increase awareness of official statistics, availability and accessibility;
  •         -  create a dialogue space between Producers and Users of official Statistics;
  •         -  engage the public and private sector in production, dissemination and use of  administrative and official statistics;
  •         -  enhance the capacity of academicians, local government and media to access and use official statistics for evidence-based decision making and reporting;
  •         -  disseminate statistical publications.

 

2. The theme for this year's celebration is: “Modernizing data ecosystems to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): the role of official statistics and big data in the economic transformation and sustainable development of Africa"


​3. Statistics Mauritius (SM) celebrated the 2023 African Statistics Day by holding a half-day workshop on Monday 20 November 2023 from 9.00 to 12.30 hours at the Ravenala Attitude Hotel, Balaclava.
