Population
1. As at end of 2025, the population of the Republic of Mauritius stood at 1,241,856 comprising 613,847 males and 628,009 females.
2. Compared to a figure of 1,244,477 at the end of 2024, the population decreased by 2,621 during the year 2025, representing a decrease of 0.21%.

4. The dependency ratio, that is the child population under 15 years of age and the elderly population aged 65 years and above per 1,000 population aged 15-64 years, was 431.7 in 2024 and 441.4 in 2025.
Vital Statistics
5. In 2025, the number of live births registered was 13,250, that is 3.1% higher than in 2024. The crude birth rate per 1,000 mid-year population was 10.3 for 2024 and 10.7 for 2025.
6. There were 12,685 deaths registered in 2025, showing an increase of 1.4% compared to 12,506 in 2024. The crude death rate per 1,000 mid-year population was 10.0 in 2024 and 10.2 in 2025.
7. The number of infant deaths registered during the year 2025 was 154, lower than the 2024 figure of 184. The infant mortality rate decreased from 14.3 per 1,000 live births in 2024 to 11.6 in 2025.
8. The number of still births registered during the year 2025 was 105, compared to 94 in 2024. The still birth rate increased from 7.3 per 1,000 total births in 2024 to 7.9 in 2025.
9. The number of marriages registered during the year 2025 was 7,715, i.e. 6.1% lower than the figure of 8,220 in 2024. The crude marriage rate decreased from 13.2 persons married per 1,000 mid-year population in 2024 to 12.4 in 2025.
