Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 3rd Quarter 2024
Highlights
1. EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.
2. Compared to the second quarter of 2024, total employment in EOE decreased by 200 (-0.6%) from 32,404 to 32,204. Some 645 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises and closure of enterprise whilst 445 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians decreased by 494 (-2.7%) from 18,024 to 17,530 and that of foreign workers increased by 294 (+2.0%) from 14,380 to 14,674.
3. EOE exports during the third quarter of 2024 amounted to R 11,943 million, 4.4% higher compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 5.2% lower compared to the third quarter of 2023. EOE imports during the third quarter of 2024 amounted to R 5,934 million, 3.2% lower than the second quarter of 2024 and 5.4% lower than the third quarter of 2023.
