1. EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.
2. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, total employment in EOE decreased by 866 (-2.5%) from 35,337 to 34,471. Some 1,173 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 307 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians decreased by 283 (-1.4%) from 19,556 to 19,273 and that of foreign workers decreased by 583 (-3.7%) from 15,781 to 15,198.
3. EOE exports during the second quarter of 2023 amounted to R 11,988 million, 0.1% lower compared to the first quarter of 2023 and 4.1% lower compared to the second quarter of 2022. EOE imports during the second quarter of 2023 amounted to R 7,354 million, 8.0% higher than the first quarter of 2023 and 10.6% lower than the second quarter of 2022.
