​Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 2nd Quarter 2022

Highlights

 

1.            EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

 

2.      Compared to the first quarter of 2022, total employment in EOE increased by 184 (+0.5%) from 34,904 to 35,088.  Some 624 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises whilst 440 jobs were lost due to contraction of workforce in some enterprises. Employment of Mauritians decreased by 18 (-0.1%) from 20,202 to 20,184 and that of foreign workers increased by 202 (+1.4%) from 14,702 to 14,904.
 

3.      EOE exports during the second quarter of 2022 amounted to R 12,517 million, 14.5% higher compared to the first quarter of 2022 and 20.3% higher compared to the second quarter of 2021. EOE imports during the second quarter of 2022 amounted to R 8,255 million, 10.3% higher than the first quarter of 2022 and 41.1% higher than the second quarter of 2021.
