1. Greenhouse gas (GHG)
GHG emissions increased by 3.4% from 2024 to 2025. Gross emissions went up from 6,570 to 6,775 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and net emissions, after absorption by forest and land use practices from 6,200 to 6,411 thousand tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent.
In 2025, the energy sector accounted for the largest share of emissions (75.0%), followed by the waste sector (13.4%).

2. Solid waste
In 2025, solid waste landfilled at Mare Chicose weighed 582,798 tonnes, 17.0% higher than in 2024 (498,309 tonnes).

3. Agriculture
Between 2024 and 2025, the harvested area under cultivation of sugarcane decreased by 2.7% from 34,759 hectares to 33,805 hectares; tea plantation decreased from 635 hectares in 2024 to 623 hectares in 2025; and food crops increased by 4.6% from 9,667 hectares to 10,114 hectares.

4. Water
In 2025, the Island of Mauritius received 3,402 million cubic metres of water rainfall, 16.6% lower when compared to 4,077 million cubic metres in 2024.
Total water utilisation was estimated at 913 million cubic metres in 2025. Hydropower accounted for 32%, the domestic, industrial and tourism sector for 37% and the remaining 31% was used by the agricultural sector.

5. Complaints
Complaints attended by the Pollution Prevention and Control Division of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change increased by 8.1% from 418 in 2024 to 452 in 2025.
The complaints were mainly due to: illegal construction, objections to projects, law and order, land conversion and land reclamations (24%), noise (20%), bareland (14%) and odour (12%).
