Consumer Price Index - 2nd Quarter 2026

Highlights

(Base period: January – December 2023 = 100)

 

1.    The Consumer Price Index, which stood at 109.6 in March 2026, registered a net increase of 2.6 points (or +2.4%) to reach 112.2 in June 2026.

2.    The main contributors for the net increase in CPI from March 2026 to June 2026 were:

  •         - higher prices of bread (+0.4 point), cooking oil (+0.1 point) and some other food products (+0.4 point);
  •         - higher prices of cigarettes (+0.1 point);
  •         - higher electricity tariffs (+0.4 point), higher prices of cooking gas (+0.2 point) and higher interest rates on housing loans (+0.1 point);
  •         - higher prices of gasoline (+0.5 point), diesel (+0.1 point) and air-tickets for international travel (+0.1 point), and higher taxi fares (+0.1 point);
  •         - higher prices of prepared meals in snacks (+0.1 point) and some other prepared foods (+0.1 point) and,
  •         - higher prices of other goods and services (+0.2 point);
            partly offset by
  •        - lower prices of vegetables (-0.2 point) and lower private T.V subscription fees (-0.1 point).

3.    The headline inflation rate for the twelve months ending June 2026 worked out to 4.1%, compared to 2.9% for the twelve months ending June 2025. 
4.    The headline inflation rate excluding “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" for the twelve months ending June 2026 worked out to 3.5%, compared to 3.2% for the twelve months ending June 2025.
