Producer Price Index - Agriculture (PPI-A) - Second quarter 2025

Highlights        

(Base period year 2018 = 100) 

1. Monthly index

 Overall index

      - PPI-A, which was 204.4 in March 2025, decreased by 0.9% to reach 202.5 in June 2025. The monthly changes were as follows: April (+1.6%), May (+1.2%) and June (-3.6%).

• 
   Sugar cane
        - The index for the period July 2024 to June 2025 was 283.0 based on the final price of sugar for the crop year 2024-2025. This represents a decrease of 11.2% over the price of sugar for the crop year 2023-2024.

Other crop products

•        - The index for "Other crop products" which was 210.0 in March 2025, decreased by 6.1% to reach 197.2 in June 2025, mainly due to a decrease of 30.6% in the prices of fruits and nuts such as pineapple (-37.6%), partly mitigated by an increase of 2.1% in the prices of fresh vegetables such as brinjal (+98.4%), creepers (+10.1%) and cabbage (+28.4%).
  
   Animals and animal products
        - The index for the sub-group "Animals and animal products" which was 162.1 in March 2025, increased by 3.6% to reach 167.9 in June 2025, due to increases in the prices of poultry (+3.5%), eggs (+5.0%), deer (+7.8%) and pigs (+5.2%).

  2. Quarterly index

•       - The overall index for the second quarter of 2025 increased by 7.0% and 5.7% when compared to the previous and corresponding quarter respectively.
