Road Transport and Road Traffic Accident Statistics (Island of Mauritius) - January-June 2025

Vehicles registered
1. As at end of June 2025, some 733,991 vehicles were registered at the National Land Transport Authority, compared to 710,605 as at end of December 2024, i.e. an increase of 23,386 (+3.3%).
2. Some 26,119 vehicles joined the fleet, whilst 2,733 were put out of circulation during the first semester.
3. The fleet consisted mostly of cars, double cab pickups and dual-purpose vehicles 415,089 (56.6%) and auto/motor cycles 253,943 (34.6%). The remaining 64,959 (8.8%) comprised vans, lorries and trucks, buses and other vehicles.
Road traffic accidents
4. The number of road accidents registered during the first semester of 2025 was 19,696, that is, 2.8% higher than the figure of 19,155 for the first semester of 2024.
5. During the first semester of 2025 the number of road traffic accidents causing casualties (fatalities and persons injured as a result of road accidents) decreased by 1.2% to 1,105 compared to 1,118 in the corresponding period of 2024. Amongst 58 were fatal compared to 64 during January to June 2024. Non-injury accidents increased by 3.1% to 18,591, against 18,037 for the corresponding period of 2024.
6. The number of persons who died as a result of road accidents during the first semester of 2025 was 63 as compared to 69 during the corresponding period of 2024. Among the casualties, the most vulnerable category of road users were riders/pillion riders of motorized two wheelers (31), followed by pedestrians (16).
