Highlights
1. Basic Pensions & Social Aid

a) As at June 2022, the number of beneficiaries of
Basic Retirement Pension reached 250,411, some 3.3% more compared to June 2021. The cost to Government was Rs 30.6 billion in 2021/2022 i.e. 3.5% higher than that in 2020/2021.
b) There were 18,034
Basic Widow's Pensioners in June 2022 compared to 18,219 one year earlier, showing a decrease of 1.0%. The amount disbursed decreased by 1.1% to Rs 2.3 billion in 2021/2022. -
c) The number of
Basic Invalid's Pensioners as at June 2022 was 32,252, i.e., a decrease of 0.2% compared to 32,321 a year earlier. The total amount disbursed from July 2021 to June 2022 rose by 1.5% to reach Rs 4.4 billion.

d) At June 2022, the number of beneficiaries of
Basic Orphan's Pension stood at 395 compared to 274 at June 2021 and expenditure amounted to Rs 57.4 million for the period July 2021 to June 2022. -
e) Social Aid
benefits were paid to 14,642 families in June 2022, i.e., an increase of 5.7% over the figure for June 2021. Amount paid registered an increase of 1.7% to reach Rs 513.1 million in 2021/2022. -
2. Expenditure on Social Security & Welfare
Government expenditure on Social Security and Welfare is estimated at Rs 51.4 billion for the period July 2021 to June 2022, representing 29.0% of total government expenditure and 9.8% of the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) at market prices.
