1. As at 1 July 2022, the population of the Republic of Mauritius stood at 1,262,523, with a decrease of 3,811 (-0.30%) over the population as at 1 July 2021.

3. The number of live births registered during the first semester of 2022 was 6,079, compared to 6,693 registered during the first semester of 2021. Some 11,940 live births are expected for the year 2022 leading to a crude birth rate of 9.5 per 1,000 mid-year population, against 10.3 the preceding year.
4. Some 6,519 deaths were registered during the first six months of 2022, compared to 5,464 in the corresponding period of 2021. Around 13,480 deaths are expected for the year 2022, resulting in a crude death rate of 10.7 per 1,000 mid-year population, compared to 10.5 in 2021.
5. Infant deaths registered during the first six months of 2022 was 75, against 101 in the corresponding period of 2021. Around 150 infant deaths are expected for the year 2022, resulting in an infant mortality rate of 12.6 per 1,000 live births, against 13.8 in 2021.
6. The number of still births registered during the first semester of 2022 was 61, compared to 67 in the corresponding period in 2021. Around 122 still births are expected during the year 2022, resulting in a still birth rate of 10.1 per 1,000 total births, compared to 10.0 in 2021.
7. The number of marriages registered in the first semester of 2022 was 4,547, i.e. 52.9% higher than the figure of 2,973 in the corresponding period of 2021. Around 10,370 marriages are expected for the year 2022. The crude marriage rate works out to 16.4 per 1,000 mid-year population, against 12.9 in 2021.
