1. The Quarterly Index of Industrial Production shows the evolution of the volume or real output of the Industrial Sector comprising “Mining and quarrying”, “Manufacturing”, “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities”.
2. In the third quarter of 2019, the overall index of industrial production contracted by 3.3% compared to the previous quarter and by 0.2% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2018.
3. The performance of the sub-sectors within the industrial sector is as follows:

4. For year ending third quarter 2019, i.e. fourth quarter 2018 to third quarter 2019, real industrial output grew by 1.7%. This is explained by expansions in “Mining and quarrying” (+3.6%), “Manufacturing” (+1.2%), “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” (+3.1%) and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities” (+3.2%).
