PRODUCER PRICE INDEX – MANUFACTURING (PPI-M) - 3rd Quarter 2023
HIGHLIGHTS

- 1. PPI-M measures changes in the effective prices received by producers of the manufacturing sector for that part of their output sold on the domestic market. It does not cover Export Oriented Enterprises, the products of which are mainly meant for export.
- 2. PPI-M, which stood at 151.2 in June 2023, registered a decrease of 0.2 point (-0.1%) to reach 151.0 in September 2023. On a monthly basis, PPI-M decreased by 0.1 point (-0.1%) in July, remained unchanged in August and decreased by 0.1 point (-0.1%) in September 2023.
- 3. The average PPI-M for the third quarter of 2023 stood at 151.1, i.e., an increase of 0.5 point (+0.3%) from 150.6 in the second quarter of 2023. This increase was mainly attributable to higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+1.1%), “Other transport equipment" (+2.3%), “Furniture" (+0.4%), “Textiles" (+2.6%) and “Wearing Apparel" (+0.7%), partly offset by lower prices of “Chemicals and chemical products" (-1.4%), “Printing and reproduction of recorded media" (-2.7%) and “Basic metals" (-3.9%).
- 4. Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, the average PPI-M for the third quarter of 2023 increased by 4.4 points (+3.0%), mainly explained by higher prices of “Food products and beverages" (+5.0%), “Other non-metallic mineral products" (+5.4%), “Wood and products of wood & cork; articles of straw and plaiting materials/ Paper and paper products" (+3.7%) and “Other products" (+12.0%), partly offset by lower prices of “Fabricated metal products" (-4.1%) and “Chemicals and chemical products" (-2.8%).
