Producer Price Index - Manufacturing 1st Quarter 2020

1.     PPI-M, which stood at 110.4 in December 2019, registered an increase of 1.6 points (+1.4%) during the first quarter of 2020 to reach 112.0 in March 2020. On a monthly basis, PPI-M increased by 0.4 point (+0.4%), 0.7 point (+0.6%) and 0.5 point (+0.4%) in January, February and March 2020 respectively.
 
2.     The average PPI-M for the first quarter of 2020 stood at 111.4, i.e. an increase of 1.1 points (+1.0%) from 110.3 in the fourth quarter of 2019. This increase was mainly attributable to higher prices of “Food products and beverages” (+1.1%). Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019, the average PPI-M for the first quarter of 2020 increased by 2.0 points (+1.8%), mainly explained by higher prices of “Food products and beverages” (+2.0%), “Other products” (+10.1%), “Other non-metallic mineral products” (+3.2%) and “Motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers” (+18.5%), partly offset by decreases in the prices of “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” (-2.0%) and “Basic metals” (-2.7%).
