Highlights
ICT Infrastructure
Between 2023 and 2024, ICT access in the country changed as follows:

. mobile cellular phone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants - from 168.7 to 176.4;

. internet subscriptions per 100 inhabitants - from 165.4 to 178.1; and
-
. fixed telephone lines per 100 inhabitants - from 37.2 to 37.7.
Internet Usage
In 2024, International Bandwidth Usage was 354,517 Megabits per second (Mbit/s) compared to 292,549 Mbit/s in 2023. The usage per inhabitant moved by 21.5% from 234,543 bits per second in 2023 to 284,872 bits per second in 2024.
ICT Usage in Education Sector
In 2024, the percentage of schools having internet access for students for study purposes was 92% at primary level and 100% at secondary level,

. In 2024, the number of students per computer in primary level was 12 compared to 13 in 2023. At secondary level, the ratio of students per computer was 9 in both 2023 and 2024.
. The percentage of students who enrolled in ICT or an ICT-related field at tertiary level was estimated at 9.1% in 2024 compared to 9.0% in 2023. -
External trade
Trade in ICT goods and services from 2023 to 2024 progressed as follows:

. imports by 8.0% from Rs 23,355 million to Rs 25,212 million; and

. exports, including re-exports, by 3.7% from Rs 8,631 million to Rs 8,954 million.
Contribution to
Gross Value Added (GVA)
The value added of ICT sector went up by 6.3% in nominal terms from Rs 31,884 million in 2023 to Rs 33,900 million in 2024. Its share in GVA was 5.6%, lower than in 2023 (5.8%). The real growth rate of this sector went up from 3.6% in 2023 to 4.0% in 2024.
Employment
Employment in large establishments (employing 10 or more persons) operating in ICT sector went down by 2.3% from 18,330 in 2023 to 17,900 in 2024.
ICT Development Index (IDI)
In 2023, Finland topped the list with an IDI score of 98.7 while the IDI Score for Mauritius was 86.3 out of 165 countries worldwide. It is to be noted that the IDI score for Mauritius in 2022 was among the highest for African countries.
