Construction Price Index, 1st Quarter 2025
Highlights
1. The Construction Price Index which stood at 141.6 in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 1.9% to reach 144.3 in the first quarter of 2025.
2. During the first quarter of 2025, increases were noted in the following sub-indices: “Labour" (2.1%), “Hire of Plant" (0.1%) and “Materials" (2.0%).
3. The increase of 2.0% in the “Materials" sub-index is explained by:
-
(i) increases in prices of timber joinery (4.3%), aluminium openings (5.8%) and plumbing (0.9%), partly offset by lower prices of steel bars (-0.2%) and tiles and granite (-1.5%) in January 2025;
(ii) increases in the prices of cement (0.3%) and premixed concrete (4.6%), partly offset by decline in the prices of timber carpentry (-0.7%) in February 2025; and -
(iii) increases in the prices of hardcore (2.5%), cement (0.3%), aggregate (4.0%), block (5.0%), premixed mortar (0.3%), tiles and granite (0.5%) and electrical installation (1.4%) in March 2025.
