Labour force, Employment and Unemployment – Year 2025
Highlights
1. The labour force, employment and unemployment for 2025 are based on the results of the Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey (CMPHS).
2. Labour force increased by 5,300 (+1,000 males and +4,300 females) from 581,900 in 2024 to 587,200 in 2025. During the same period, the number of those outside labour force decreased by 5,200 from 410,500 to 405,300.
3. Mauritian employment increased by 6,700 (+900 males and +5,800 females) from 547,000 in 2024 to 553,700 in 2025.
4. Unemployment decreased by 1,400 (+100 males and -1,500 females) from 34,900 in 2024 to 33,500 in 2025 resulting in an unemployment rate of 5.7%. From 2024 to 2025, male unemployment rate increased from 4.2% to 4.3% while female unemployment rate decreased from 8.3% to 7.6%.
5. Unemployment rate was highest in the lowest age group (16 to 24 years) with a rate of 18.4% (15.9% for male and 21.2% for female) and decreased progressively with increasing age.
