​Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 3rd Quarter 2023

Highlights

 

1.       EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

2.      Compared to the second quarter of 2023, total employment in EOE decreased by 498 (-1.4%) from 34,471 to 33,973.  Some 815 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 317 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians decreased by 261 (-1.4%) from 19,273 to 19,012 and that of foreign workers decreased by 237 (-1.6%) from 15,198 to 14,961.

3.      EOE exports during the third quarter of 2023 amounted to R 12,635 million, 5.4% higher compared to the second quarter of 2023 and 6.6% lower compared to the third quarter of 2022. EOE imports during the third quarter of 2023 amounted to R 6,277 million, 14.6% lower than the second quarter of 2023 and 28.6% lower than the third quarter of 2022.
