Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) - 1st Quarter 2023


Highli​ghts

 

 

1.            EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.

 

2.      Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, total employment in EOE decreased by 772​ (-2.1%) from 36,109 to 35,337.  Some 1,040 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises whilst 268 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises.  Employment of Mauritians decreased by 292 (-1.5%) from 19,848 to 19,556 and that of foreign workers decreased by 480 (-3.0%) from 16,261 to 15,781.

 

3.      EOE exports during the first quarter of 2023 amounted to R 11,996 million, 7.5% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2022 and 9.8% higher compared to the first quarter of 2022. EOE imports during the first quarter of 2023 amounted to R 6,811 million, 24.1% lower than the fourth quarter of 2022 and 8.9% lower than the first quarter of 2022.
