Consumer Price Index - 2nd Quarter 2022

 

Highlights


1.      The Consumer Price Index, which stood at 120.1 in March 2022, registered a net increase of 1.9 points (or 1.6%) to reach 122.1 in June 2022.

2.    The main contributors for the net increase in CPI from March 2022 to June 2022 were:

  •        -  higher prices of trader's ​rice (+0.2 point), meat (+0.1 point), fish (+0.1 point) and some other food products (+0.4 point), partly mitigated by decreases in the prices of vegetables (-2.8 points) and culinary herbs (-0.1 point);
  •        -  higher prices of cigarettes (+0.4 point), beer and stout (+0.3 point), whisky (+0.1 point) and, rum and other cane spirits (+0.1 point);
  •        -  higher prices of cooking gas (+0.2 point);
  •        -  higher prices of washing materials and softeners (+0.1 point) and, furniture (+0.1 point);
  •        -  higher prices of gasolene (+1.4 points), motor vehicles (+0.4 point), diesel (+0.1 point) and, higher bus fares (+0.2 point) and taxi fares (+0.1 point);
  •        -  higher prices of some prepared foods (+0.1 point) and goods for personal care (+0.1 point), and;
  •        -  higher prices of some other goods and services (+0.3 point);

    3.      The headline inflation rate for the twelve months ending June 2022 worked out to 8.0%, compared to 2.2% for the twelve months ending June 2021. 

 

4.      The headline inflation rate excluding “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" for the twelve months ending June 2022 worked out to 7.7%, compared to 2.2% for the twelve months ending June 2021.
